Purpose Prepare UC Davis for clinical/translational team-science research (NIH Roadmap) Through a multi-layered, multi-disciplinary, didactic curriculum and mentored research program (MCRTP)

Clinical Translational Science Center (CTSC) The MCRTP is a core component of the UC Davis Clinical Translational Science Center established in October 2006 The CTSC is part of a national consortium of 12 Centers (awarded by the NIH) Graduates from the MCRTP will be eligible for the UC Davis K12 Program

Participants Advanced Post-Doctoral Trainees Senior Fellows and Residents Junior Faculty (current & new recruits) * Required: Pre-clinical/translational or clinical research career goals

Successful Completion Masters of Advanced Study in Clinical Research (minimum of 36 units required) UCOP is currently evaluating and calculating the amount of tuition to be charged for the MCRTP and Master’s degree. (scholar costs are admission fee and books)

Application Process Candidates submit: Research proposal (2 - 4 page maximum) Curriculum Vitae Career Development Goals Mentoring Plan Letters of support –Prospective mentor (specific time commitment) –Department Chair (release time)

Review and Selection Process Each application will be reviewed by two members of the GCLR Graduate Group who will prepare a written critique and NIH score. The critiques are presented to the GCLR Admissions and Awards Committee who will make their recommendations to the GCLR Executive Committee for final selection.

Criteria Commitment to a career in clinical research –track record in clinical research Quality of proposed research –interdisciplinary research and team-building –improve patient-oriented research at UC Davis

Criteria (con’t) Mentor’s clinical research and training record Funding support for training and career development – NIH (F32, T32, K’s, etc.) or non-NIH

Program Effectiveness On-going evaluation process: Core Curriculum – Educational Policy & Curriculum Development Committee Mentorship Experience – Admissions & Awards Committee Student Assessment – Mini-Advisory, GCLR Graduate Group, EAB

Time Commitment As required by the NIH K30 grant, candidates will need an estimated 70% time commitment to complete the MCRTP two year curriculum
