FELLOWSHIPS, DEVELOPMENT AWARDS & RESEARCH SUPPLEMENTS FOR FACULTY & STUDENTS
13
GRAD. STUDENT PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS (F31) Encourages students from minority groups underrepresented in the biomedical sciences to seek the research doctorate. Students must already be enrolled in a Ph.D. program. Students must identify a sponsor for mentored research. Up to 5 years of support (stipend, tuition & fees).
14
FACULTY PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHPS (F34) Provides an opportunity for eligible faculty who lack the Ph.D. degree to obtain the research doctorate. Faculty must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program. Faculty must intend to return to the minority serving institution after the training period. Five-Year max. support: stipend–up to $37,476; tuition/fees/institutional allowance.
15
MORE Faculty Development Awards (K01) Offers faculty (with Ph.D. degree) an opportunity to update their research skills through high quality research experiences. Support for eligible faculty to spend the summer (or one academic term) every year for 2 to 5 years in a research intensive lab. Ideally, experience should lead to long-term collaborations. Provides salary; supplies, equipment, & travel. Direct cost up to $50,000/year.
16
MARC SENIOR FACULTY FELLOWSHIPS (F33) Provides an opportunity to eligible faculty to update their research skills and/or move into new areas of research through intensive research in a state-of-the-art research environment. Candidate must have received the Ph.D. at least 7 yrs. before, and be a full-time faculty in biomedical sciences or mathematics for at least 3 yrs. Candidate must intend to return to the minority institution after the training period. Two-Year max. support: stipend–up to $51,036, plus institutional allowance.

NIGMS & NIH OTHER SUPPORT FROM NIGMS & NIH
18
NIGMS Institutional support to help URM students make the transition from 2- year community college to 4-year baccalaureate program, and from MS degree programs to Ph.D. programs in biomedical sciences. BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM: A partnership between 2-year colleges that award the Associates degree and institutions awarding the Baccalaureate degree in biomedical sciences. DOCTORATE PROGRAM: A partnership between M.S. degree programs and institutions awarding the Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences. Provides tuition remission, salary, supplies. BRIDGES TO THE FUTURE PROGRAMS (NIGMS Partnership with NCMHD)
19
Research Supplements for Underrepresented Minorities This is a NIH-wide program: principal investigators holding NIH research grants may request supplemental funds to support minority scientists and students. The types of supplements available are: –High School Students –Undergraduate Students –Graduate Research Assistants –Postdoctoral Training –Investigators
