A review and maybe even some new information!

I can identify the negative effects of alcohol on the mind and body. I understand the difference between drinking and binge drinking. I have the knowledge necessary to make smart decisions regarding alcohol use and abuse. I can identify the truth behind alcohol advertisements.

What have you learned in the past? What are your thoughts on alcohol? Discuss mental and physical problems. Do you know the laws? Name a few.

The younger you are when you start drinking, the more likely you are to have a problem with alcohol. ONE DRINK= 12 ounce beer = 3-4 ounces of wine = 1 shot of 80 proof liquor Alcohol is a depressant.

How much alcohol is consumed The time period in which it is consumed How much food was in the stomach Body weight Gender Tolerance Level

Alcoholics don't know they are becoming alcoholics-- "it just happens". When someone has a problem, they follow certain patterns: Lie to sober friends Hide it from sober friends Party more with drinking friends Deny they have a problem If you're asking yourself if you have a problem, you probably do.

Alcohol poisoning occurs when you drink too much alcohol too fast, which can lead to coma or even death. The worst thing to do when a person has had too much to drink is to leave them alone or lying down. Alcohol-related accidents are the #1 killer of teens. Binge drinking can lead to permanent brain damage; coma, then death; can happen in less than an hour. Some of the social effects of alcohol are: unprotected sex, pregnancy, STD's, date rape.

There is nothing that will sober you up except time. The legal BAL for the State of PA (if you are 21 years or older) is.08. Some people feel that the DUI limit should be even lower.

Should the DUI limit be lowered from.08 to.05? Support your answer with at least 3-5 reasons.

College student Jessica Rasdall made a horrible decision seven years ago. After a night of drinking, she got behind the wheel of her car to drive herself and her best friend home. The decision cost Jessica four years in prison, and her best friend's life. Who is your best friend and what if you killed he or she?

ature=player_embedded#t=120 ature=player_embedded#t=120 He could have been sentenced from 2-8 years in prison. The judge gave him a 6 ½ year sentence.

Some Standard Procedures Up to one year’s driver’s license suspension. A drug and alcohol evaluation. Fines (up to $500 for a first offense), court costs and restitution. Participation in a state-approved Alcohol Highway Safety Program if the court orders it. An automatic one-year suspension of driving privileges for anyone who refuses to be tested for DUI. DUI fines, attorney’s fees and court costs are very expensive. Your car insurance premiums will go up or your car insurance could even be canceled; You could lose your job if it involves driving a commercial vehicle. Your parents and friends probably won’t trust you as much as they did before. Your irresponsible behavior could result in serious injury or death, possibly of a close friend or a family member. The hassles don’t end there. Consider the following:

All of that sounds like one big headache to me!

Drinking alcohol means consuming an alcoholic beverage. Binge drinking can be defined as the following: Men- Drinking five or more drinks in a row Women- Drinking four or more drinks in a row Now, tell me…why on earth would anyone do that?

Thoughts?

Where is alcohol advertised? What kinds of advertisements have you seen? What kinds of people are in these ads? What is the advertisement saying? Who is the target audience for the ad? What is the message of the ad?

BeGc&feature=player_detailpage BeGc&feature=player_detailpage player_embedded player_embedded e=player_embedded e=player_embedded dEAhlz3Bg&feature=player_detailpage dEAhlz3Bg&feature=player_detailpage Let’s talk about these commercials…

Find a partner (someone different than the previous activity) Create an alcohol awareness advertisement using factual information. IT SHOULD NOT GLORIFY alcohol use. Decide who your target audience will be. Keep it simple, but creative. HAVE FUN WITH THE ASSIGNMENT!!!

You are UNDERAGE. You should be aware of the potential negative outcomes. (Give me examples!) You should be aware of the laws and how they pertain to you and the choices you make. Advertisements do not always provide the real story.
