Opal, a girl that finds a dog named Winn Dixie. Winn-Dixie, a dog that Opal finds. Odus, the worker at Gertrude's Pets. Gloria Dump, everybody calls her a witch. Librarian

The setting of the story is a Winn Dixie grocery store.

The story is about a girl named Opal who finds a dog and names it Winn Dixie because she found him at the Winn Dixie Grocery Store.

Opal gets a job at Gertrude's Pets so she can earn enough money to buy a collar for Winn Dixie, her dog.

The land lord wants Opal and her Dad to get rid of Winn Dixie. What will happen to Winn Dixie?
