Pets with Bad Breath! Fractions, decimals, percents

Problem 18 people surveyed. 11 said their pet has bad breath. 2 said their pet does not have bad breath. 5 said they have no pet. Find the fraction, decimal, and percent for the pets with bad breath out of the total amount. Find the fraction, decimal, and percent for the pets without bad breath out of the total amount. Find the fraction, decimal and percent for the people who do not have pets at all. Create a circle graph to show the data.

Pets with bad breath…yuck! 11 out of 18 pets have bad breath. That makes the fraction 11/18. To change a fraction to a decimal, divide the numerator by the denominator: 11 divided by 18 gives you 0.61 (repeating 1). To change a decimal number to a percent, move the decimal point 2 places to the right becomes 61%.

Pets without bad breath…hmm? 2 out of 18 pets do not have bad breath. The fraction becomes 2/18. This can be reduced by dividing both the numerator and the denominator by the GCF which in this case is 2. 2/18 then becomes 1/9. To change 1/9 to a decimal number, divide the numerator by the denominator which makes 1 divided by 9 become 0.11 (repeating 1). To change 0.11 to a percent, move the decimal point to places to the right and add the percent sign to change 0.11 to 11%.

People without pets! 5 out of 18 people do not have pets. Fraction is 5/18 (simplest form already) Decimal is 0.27(repeating 7) Percent is 28% (rounded)

Final Information Bad Breath 11/ % No Bad Breath 2/ % No Pets 5/ % If we add the percentages together, we get 100 which is correct. Now we can make our pie chart (circle graph)
