"Percent" comes from the Latin Per Centum. The Latin word Centum means 100, for example a Century is 100 years.

4. So percent means…… The number of something per (or out of) 100
So, 40% is….
40 out of 100 or…
40/100
Now you’ve written a percent as a fraction.
So percent means……

10. Converting Decimals to Percents
To turn a decimal into a percent you just reverse the steps. Move the decimal two places to the RIGHT and add the % sign.

First you have to convert it into a decimal.
Just divide the top number (numerator)
by the bottom number (denominator).
