A LITTLE HISTORY… Prior to the 2011 school year, City Schools had a traditional teacher contract. Every teacher moved a “step” every year (with at least a Satisfactory evaluation) Only way to move “lanes” was by earning advanced degrees Very little choice and autonomy over career advancement 4

NOW… S ince the school year, City Schools has operated under a novel contract. Teachers now control the pace of their earnings Career advancement is a result of engagement in professional development and other district activities Teachers can advance by demonstrating excellence 5

SO, WHO’S WHO? 6 WHO ARE THE JGP & JOC ? JOC: The Joint Oversight Committee (JOC) is made up of district and union leaders, and makes decisions regarding contractual policies. JGP: The Joint Governing Panel (JGP) makes recommendations to the JOC, and implements their decisions.

MODEL PROFILE SCORING 7 Candidates must earn 80% or above to be placed on the Model Pathway. Candidates who earn 75% - 79% will be given a chance to raise their score to an 80% by presenting and clarifying their profile. Spring 2015 candidates who have a profile scored and are not placed on the Model Pathway must wait until Spring 2016 (Cohort 10) to go through again.

Way #2: Accelerated Movement How it works: Complete requirements, move to the Professional Pathway faster than the normal progression 11

What’s the rationale for accelerated movement? The spirit of this contract is for professionals to control the pace of their earnings. The process for accelerated movement highlights engagement in the district. The district wants to retain newer teachers who are engaged and committed to improving their practice. 12
