21 June 2001Prof. Dr Gerd Stanke(GFaI, Berlin) EVAN Key Aim The key aim is to help international leadership by Europe in the growing 'Culture x Technology' field, both non-profit and industrial, by using, strengthening and extending the EVA Conferences Network globally. Key supporting objectives include: 1.Disseminate and assist exploitation of some 50 EC RTD projects involving over 200 organisations and local / national ones a critical mass in the field 2.Promote Europe's 'Cultural Technological Industry' and strengthen the 'Culture x Technology' community across Europe and its international connections 3.Promote mutual stimulus and benefits in 'Culture x Technology' between the cultural sector, industry, academia and local government 4.Widening Europe influence by holding the first Southern Hemisphere EVA Conference

21 June 2001Prof. Dr Gerd Stanke(GFaI, Berlin) EVAN Inputs of EVAN to the Vienna Workshop The project emphasizes in general the immense importance of the application of the Information Technologies in the Cultural Heritage. Advanced Information Technolgies often arises by Space and Military research, due to the conversation process some of the technologies are available for civil projects including those in the Cultural Heritage field. Imaging and display technologies are representitive examples. Content Based Retrieval (CBR) even for data bases containing mainly non-alphanumeric information (images, movies, sound etc.). Such data bases are typically found in museums, galleries etc.
