FTL is a complete education package which… …transforms the learning environment from teacher-centered to student-centered, leading to: Enhanced student engagement & achievement Improved access to educational opportunities for all FTL is not a “Laptop for Kids” program

Program Status, Michigan Participation 200 buildings across 100 school districts FTL Program Totals HP Laptops – 26,060 Alternative Devices – 932 Total Devices – 27,000 (1,200 Teacher)

FTL Impact Research Questions (University of Memphis)  To what degree did FTL: o Enhance student learning and achievement in core academic subjects? o Develop student’s 21 st Century workforce knowledge and skills? o Increase equal educational opportunities through ubiquitous access to technology? o Foster effective use of the wireless technology through systematic professional development?

The Data  Direct classroom observations o 76 Freedom to Learn 6 th grade classrooms; 34 hours of observations  60 during random whole grade observations  16 during planned targeted observations  Evaluation Surveys o Students4,245 o FTL Teacher 279 o Lead Teachers & SuperCoaches 79 o Professional Development1,330 TOTAL5,933

The Data Shows  Positive trends/results in the following areas: o Direct Instruction o Independent Seatwork o Cooperative Learning o Project-Based Learning o Computer for Delivery o Integration of Subject Areas o Experiential, Hands-on Learning o Technology as a Learning Tool o Teacher as Coach
