2 Advanced Classroom Technology State funding for implementing technology Professional development for 21 st Century Classrooms One-to-One Mobile Devices Computers for every teacher/student (9- 12 teachers 2012-2013)

3 Increase Opportunities for Students Blended Learning (combining digital content with the best practices of classroom instruction) Flipping the classroom (students access the content on their own as homework; assignments are then done in class with the support of the instructor) Minico and Mt. Harrison have now joined the IDLA Consortium Repositories IDLA (Idaho Digital Learning Academy) Schoolnet Discovery Learning

4 Reward Excellent Teachers & Administrators Star-Rating-schools are given a star rating from 5 to 1 based on overall academic performance (Academic Growth Percentile) Pay for Performance (P4P)- A school and teachers may earn pay for performance based on the Student Percentile Growth (SPG) Empower Great Teachers & Leaders Teaching with Technology Common Core State Standards Schoolnet Best teaching practices for the 21 st Century Leadership positions Hard-to-fill positions (determined by the District) P4P Growth

5 New Evaluations for Teachers-2012/2013 Parent input (a random selection of 20% parents as per policy #402.00) 50% of a teacher’s evaluation must be based on student growth Evaluation tool will be based on Charlotte Danielson’s “Framework for Teaching” Policy Changes Seniority does not determine employment status Administrators oversee hiring practices for their school New teachers are offered 1-2 year contracts Administrative Evaluation 2012-2013 Parent input survey (a random selection of 20% parents) 50% of administrator’s evaluation must be based on school growth Evaluation tool will be based on Charlotte Danielson’s “Framework for Teaching” Fair & Effective Labor Practices

7 Increasing Efficiency and Cost Savings ISEE data tracks student information and taxpayer dollars Students now have a digital backpack Fiscal Report Card Web-based, district-to-district budget report

8 June 2009, Idaho joined 47 other states in committing to Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for proficiency in English-Language Arts and Mathematics (K-12). CCSS Initiative is a voluntary, state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors’ Association Center for Best Practice.

9 2011-2013 Professional Development for Idaho Teachers and Administrators 2014-2015 New common assessments based on Common Core Standards will be delivered 2013-2014 Common Core State Standards will be taught in Idaho classrooms

11 Curriculum Must meet the expectations of CCSS Must incorporate 21 st Century Learning Skills Common Core Standards Are aligned with college and workforce expectations Include rigorous content Are evidence based Define knowledge in a K-12 education Meet national and global competition Consistent across state lines

12 Instruction The method of delivery must change to meet 21 st Century skills Extensive writing in all subjects Blended learning Flipping the classroom With the implementation of CCSS, instruction will guide students to: Develop higher level thinking Use technology and digital media Problem solve Make cross-curricular connections Comprehend, critique and collaborate with others Write in all subject areas Research and report using sound practices

13 Assessment Idaho and 31 other states joined together to form Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) Consortium Assessments will be given grades 3-8 and 11 in English-Language Arts and Math SBA will be implemented 2014-2015 The assessment will focus on the following elements: Predict college and career readiness Provide multiple choice, constructed response and performance tasks Use computer adaptive technology and scoring capabilities Support formative and benchmark assessments
