What do you know already? True or False? All non-EU students can work part-time during term Graduate employers prefer candidates with work experience Masters students can work full time during the summer Students are exempt from paying tax Employers prefer your friends to cover your shift if you cannot work National Insurance was made optional in 2003 There is no minimum wage for foreign workers All employers will treat you fairly, all the time Very few international students manage to get part-time jobs

The only restriction to working in the UK on your student visa if… ……Your passport contains one of the following: No work Work prohibited because this would be a breach of your immigration conditions and a criminal offence. You can see examples of passport stamps that allow and prohibit work at: These stamps are very uncommon and therefore this means that you will undoubtedly be allowed to work for: up to 20 hours per week term-time 40 hours per week during vacations. PRACTICALITIES National Insurance Job Centre Plus Tel: Income Tax You will have to pay tax if you earn more than £8,105 in the tax year. PAYE system. You can claim back tax paid if you don’t earn enough. If you are a student on a course in the UK and you work solely in the holiday periods (summer, Christmas, Easter) you may be able to receive your wages without tax being deducted.
