Health Care for America Education Fund Quality, affordable health care we can all count on.

The HCAEF Mission Help create a guarantee of quality and affordable health care for all through public education, policy research, grassroots organizing, and coalition-building. * HCAEF is a 501c3 sponsored by the Tides Center and works closely with its 501c4 partner, Health Care for America Now.

Why? 45 million people without insurance 20 million people underinsured 20% of uninsured Americans: children Rapidly increasing health care costs are straining families, businesses and government “Of all the forms of inequality, healthcare injustice is the most shocking and inhumane.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Our Successes In Our First Few Months… Held unprecedented launch in July 2008:  Sent 5.2 million s  Conducted press events in 53 cities  Garnered 96 million media impressions In September, released report: “Insuring Health or Ensuring Profits?” In September, produced and distributed documentary: “Diagnosis Now!”“Diagnosis Now!” In June, granted $10 million by The Atlantic Philanthropies - one of the largest grants for advocacy ever made

Our Successes In Our First Few Months… Over 52,000 individuals joined online and have taken action Two national call-in days in October generated over 5,000 calls to national, state and local policymakers In September, conducted 340 house parties with over 5,000 attending In October, national day of public “Which Side Are You On?” had 34 events around the country“Which Side Are You On?”

Now What? The work has just begun. HCAEF will be doing the following over the next year: Public Education on health care, health care reform, health disparities Research on industry, policy, and disparities Leadership Training at state and national levels Coalition-building at state and national levels Small business education and outreach

The Urgency Now is the time is the year to educate the public, encourage action, form a plan, and implement policy that will provide every individual access to quality, affordable health care.
