BRENT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL A CULTURE OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT SY 2015 BUDGET AND GRADE-LEVEL OVERVIEWS

BRENT BUDGET OVERVIEW  Status Quo  Reading Specialist & Science Teacher  Low “supply” line item in order to pay for reading and science teachers  PTA financial support allows us to pay for the two staff members  DCPS fully staffed our Specials teachers  DCPS fully staffed our front office  Both PWP programs extended for SY ‘15 due to continued DCPS funding (“Fun Fund”)  Math Academy and Summer Learning Academy  Other part of “Fun Fund” dedicated to whole staff Responsive Classroom PD (new for SY ‘15)  “Disappointing, but not devastating”

EARLY CHILDHOOD  4 Mixed-age (3-and 4-year-olds) classrooms  17 students per class (10 PK4, 7 PS3)  1 teacher and 1 aide  Lunch in Classrooms  Morning and Afternoon Recess  hour Rest Time  Specials: Chinese, Art, Music, Library, P.E.  Reggio Inspired Instruction:  Atelerista  Small Group Time with Art & Music Specialists (new for SY ‘14-’15)

KINDERGARTEN  3 Classrooms (new for SY ’14-’15)  students per class  1 teacher and 1 aide  30-minute Lunch in Classrooms (new for SY ‘14-’15)  Morning and Afternoon Recess (60 total minutes)  Specials: Chinese, Art, Music, Library, P.E.  Daily Instruction:  120 minutes of Literacy  90 minutes of Math  45 minutes Science / Social Studies

New for SY ‘14-’15  Daily Instruction  120 minutes of Literacy  90 minutes of Math  45 Science / Social Studies
