Vehicle Inspection Guide This guide breaks down the vehicle inspection into 6 steps. Some steps MUST be done in the correct order, (STEP 2 must be done prior to starting the bus) however, you can change the order of STEPS IV, V, and VI It is important to note that lights and other electrical equipment that use VOLTAGE should be turned on after the bus is running and the Alternator has started working. This will extend the life of the Alternator and Battery. NEVER LEAVE THE BUS UNATTENDED WHILE IT IS RUNNING STEP I; THE APPROACH STEP II: UNDERCARRIAGE STEP III: STARTING THE BUS STEP IV: EXTERIOR STEP V: INTERIOR STEP VI: BRAKE CHECK This pre-trip guide was developed to help you do a complete and through inspection on your bus. Not all items will be applicable to your bus:

STEP I – THE APPROACH APPROACH: Over-all condition of vehicle as you approach it, look for anything unusual, items dangling from the under carriage, excessive fluid leaks. Etc.

THE UNDERCARRIAGE General Engine Condition Oil – for level and color Belts – tension and wear (not more than 1 inch twist) Hoses – good condition and secured (not cracked or bulging) Electrical wiring – not frayed, broken or corroded Fuel Cap – present and secure (not leaking) [may be on either side of bus / both sides) Power steering fluid – level (not dirty – good color) Water / Coolant – proper level (not rusted – good color) Battery – secure, no excessive corrosion Transmission fluid – proper level not dirty – good color)

STEP III – STARTING THE BUS Turn ignition on – Check oil light and buzzer / warning lights START ENGINE Check all gauges – working properly and the function of each gauge Turn on all lights / Turn on right turn signal / high beams

LEFT SIDE TIRES FRONT TIRES: Tread depth NOT LESS 4/32 inch Side walls – abrasions, bulges or cuts Wheel – cracks, dents, welds, valve stem Lug nuts – tight / no rust or rooster tails Hub nuts – tight / no excessive leakage Front Reflector (not cracked or broken) Lettering (legible) Top Middle Clearance Light (working / not cracked or broken) LEFT REAR DUALS / TAG (if applicable) REAR TIRES: RECAPS OR RETREADS OK – NO REGROOVED Hand or tire thumper between duals – (no obstructions) Tread depth NOT LESS 2/32 inch

DRIVER’S COMPARTMENT All Controls – (operate each control on dash) (if bus has central warning light switch/operate) Interior lights Heaters & defrosters Fans Windshield wipers Mirrors Drivers seat Horns Sun visors Registration – Insurance Card – CHP Certificate [check before anything] First aid kit (if applicable) Fire extinguisher (4:BC SPAB) (8:BC School Bus) Reflectors (3 self standing)

STEP VI – BRAKE CHECK Air Governor Cut-In - before 85psi / Cut Out - Before 130psi Static Air – Not more than 2psi in 1 minute – Break Applied Applied Air – Not more than 3psi in 1 minute – Break Released Low Air Warning – 2 audible & visual – Before 60 on DAS Emergency Stopping System – between 40 and 20 psi Parking Brake – Bus MUST NOT roll / Build up to about 90psi – Stop Bus With Brake Knob Brake Check – 2 at about 5 MPH – NOT pulling to left or right
