Year Seven The Seven Ages of Man Learning Objectives To know which play the speech comes from. To understand what the speech is about. To be able to match up the ages of man with their descriptions.

Success Criteria I MUST be able to say which play the speech is from. I SHOULD be able to say what ages of man Shakespeare thought there were. I COULD explain my own ages of life so far.

The Big Question What stages do you think that life can be divided up into?

Starter If you were going to divide life into seven different sections, what would they be? Write down the names of the seven sections that you think life is divided into. Give reasons for your choices.

Task 1 Look at the sheet that you have been given. On it is a speech from one of Shakespeare’s plays called “As You Like It”. Read through the speech as a class. Now that you have read the speech, tell your teacher what you think Shakespeare is trying to say. Your teacher will write your suggestions on the board.

Task 2 Now that you know the different ages of man according to Shakespeare you need to write down the descriptions that Shakespeare uses to describe each age of man. Fill in the boxes on the sheet that you have been given using the information from the speech. Extension Task-Complete the word search.

Plenary You must be able to answer questions about the speech that you have just read. Your teacher will choose people to answer.
