1 Introducing Ageing Populations 23/02/12 I will learn differences between MEDCs and LEDCs in population growth, population pyramids and stage reached in the Demographic Transition model by analysing population pyramids and living graphs. Subject Objective I will learn to MANAGE INFORMATION by practising how to categorise it. Competence Objective Starter task! Label your population pyramids as MEDC or LEDC. Write one sentence underneath each one justifying your choice. TIME FOR THESE ACTIVITIES: 15 minutes

3 Using the information on your sheet, sort the cards into categories. There must be a minimum of three groups and a maximum of six. Feedback. What categories did you use? Why did you choose these categories? PART TWO: Activation Activity 1.Social – Things that concern people 2.Economic – Things that affect money and finance. 3.Political – Something to do with government – local and / or national. Now re-sort the cards into the three categories of social, economic and political. TIME FOR THESE ACTIVITIES: 25 minutes

4 MAIN TASK PART THREE: Demonstration Activity HINTS/TIPS/ADVICE TIME FOR THESE ACTIVITIES: 25 minutes STAGE 1: Give each category a colour or label S, P and E STAGE 2: Decide whether the card belongs on the MEDC or LEDC pyramid. STAGE 3: Stick your population pyramid (each one) in the middle of a double page, stick the cards around the pyramid. When sticking the cards down, try and stick them in the corresponding place on the pyramid.
