Andrew Kirievskiy Level Three Leadership FINAL PROJECT October 2008

Content: Introduction - My life story - My VABEs This presentation is a benchmark of: Where I am in 2008? Where do I want to be in 5 years and why? How would I get there? It’s also a reminder about the major insight from the course. Content: - My life story - My VABEs My leadership principles - Personal Charter - Internal Life’s dream - My personal model of leadership - Personal model for managing change - Major takeaways from the course

Some of My VABEs Need to add: - Being fair My opinion is the most important for me - Truth telling Drop or rethink: -Only future counts -There is no place for enjoy and relax -I don’t owe anything to anyone When people get married they should stay married and others Keep: All the other Here’s some of my VABEs. It was very useful and interesting job to put this ideas on the paper. The first lesson was that many of these principles doesn’t make any sense even I strongly followed them in the past. For example, principle that only future counts. I used to put too much attention to the future, not putting much to the present and I suffered very often from that. Others examples include

Core leadership principles Have values Have a vision and goals Be a professional (know the industry and develop communicational and teamwork skills) Grow yourself and your people Innovate and help innovate

My life story VABEs 1985 Good pupil 1987 Got to a bad company (gang) 1989 Back to the right track 1988-1991 USSR collapse 1994 Accepted to the best local university 1995 Met my future wife 2001 Got married 2002 Understood that there is no opportunity to grow professionally, had a bad downturn in career 2004 My daughter was born 2004 Career went up 2007 Darden Here’s my Life story. I believe that it’s relevant in this presentation because it many of my VABEs stem from it. For example, till 12 I lived in USSR and this culture still has an impact on my set of VABEs. Another example would be that I was very independent from my parents, started my career without any help of them, and started my family very early and survived depending only on myself. VABEs

Mission statement and vision To make life of my family, company and society better by brining wealth and new technology into life.   VISION Who do I want to be in 3 years: Get a promotion in an established company. 5 years: Develop career and get recognition for one big or two smaller projects . 10 years: Establish a successful career in a developed country. Be one of the best specialists in my profession and in industry. Have at least 3 kids. 20 years: Get a good education to my kids and made them good personalities. Run a business.

My strategy To implement my vision and achieve my goals I will: Work hard Keep clarifying my center Keep changing my habits Develop new VABEs and revise old ones Learn Keep my mind open Look for new experience, including cross-cultural Keep working on my Internal Dream Say the truth, keep promises, be fair, respect others

How do I want to feel? Internal dream Understanding this dream is an ongoing process. At today point here’s the rank: Passionate Free Respected Strong Light Clear (grasp)

My personal model of leadership - Clarifying the center - Truth-telling - Promise-keeping - Fairness - Respect Task - See what needs to be done - Understand the underlying forces - Have the courage to act Organization - Designing the right context: culture structure other subsystems Others - Clarifying what others can contribute - Supporting others Team - Team's dream and vision - Shared leadership and work - Team accountability - Right people on right roles - Stage of development

Personal model for managing change Baseline Behavior Outside information No reaction on the reality Hurt or/and Engagement Enough discipline and will? No. Denial. Base Line behavior Yes. Hard work Change

MAJOR TAKEAWAYS FROM THE COURSE. - Levels of leadership - Leadership starts from yourself - Emotional Intelligence at least as important as IQ - Internal Dream - Importance of Habits

conclusion Wrap-up Look at it in 5-years A good instrument for systematic personal and professional development Thank you
