Where did football originate from? Greeks used to play a form of football called “Episkyros” which they played at 2000 BC. This game was played in a pitch with two teams, with each team consisting of players. Later on the roman developed their own version of football and called it “Harpastum”. There is evidence that football went back to as far as 2500BC in Egypt. However the rules for Egyptian ball games are unknown. Also the Chinese made up their own game of football about 1500 years before the Greeks, they called it “Cuju”. Although it was in England where football started to take it’s shape. When in 1863 an association split into two groups association football, and rugby football. Therefore football originally was founded in England.

Who made up the first organized set of rules for football? Why did they do this? In the year 1848 football started to get more popular around England. So Henry de Winton and John Charles Thring organized a meeting at Cambridge were they invited several representatives from other colleges. There they set a group of rules known as “Cambridge Rules”. Later on in 1863 several football clubs met to make an organized set of rules, since it was growing so much it needed to be more organized. So then the first football association in was created called “Football Association”. Therefore the first record of organized rules were made by this organization.

How many countries play football as their national sport? Over 60 countries world wide play football as a national sport. Including: South America. Western Europe (all countries ranging form Norway down to Greece). South East Asia Middle East (countries like Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, etc all play soccer as their national sport). African Nations (Almost all African nations excluding South Africa have football as their national game).

Why is football so popular? I think that it has to do with how the English affected the world. Since it originally started in England when 2 different associations split. Moreover when England conquered most of Europe they took with them their culture including football. And soon football spread all over the world. I think this is important because if England didn’t conquer all these countries then football wouldn’t have even spread.

It isn’t an individual sport it is a team sport. This is important because in some sports one person has the ball all the time and plays the whole game, but still wins. In football it is impossible to win if you don’t play as a team, so all the group has to participate. Since when only one person plays the other team member get bored and dislike the game.

It is easy to play so everybody can play no matter how good they are in sports. This is important because if a sport is complicated then not everybody will play it or enjoy it. Although the simplicity of football makes it more popular.

Different ways to play football, at different area’s of the world. Gaelic (Irish) Football: mixture of soccer, rugby and basketball. It is a field game. Rules: 1. The ball can be carried in the hand for a distance of four steps and can be kicked or hand-passed. 2. After every four steps the ball must either be bounced or solo-ed, this means dropping the ball onto the foot and kicking it back into the hand. 3. You may not bounce the ball twice in a row. 4. To score, you put the ball over the crossbar by foot or hand for one point or under the crossbar and into the net by foot or hand for 3 points.

Australian rules football: No more than 18 players of each team are permitted to be on the field at any time. They are spread of six forwards, six defenders or "backmen" and six midfielders, usually comprised of two wingman, one center and three followers, including a ruckman, ruck- rover and rover. A game consists of four quarters. In Australian football, quarters are 20 minutes. At the end of each quarter, teams change their scoring end. The ball can be kicked in any direction by way of a foot, clenched fist (called handpass) or open-hand tap but it cannot be thrown under any circumstances. A player may run with the ball but it must touch the ground at least once every 15 meters. Opposition players may bump or tackle the player to get the ball. The ball carrier may only be tackled between the shoulders and knees.
