Many believed Rugby started in 1823 when William Webb Ellis took the ball in his hand & ran with it! Rugby is often referred to as mock or folk football Rugby developed at a Rugby School in England, United Kingdom during the 19 th century Rugby is derived from a sport which is known as 'hurling' that was played during the 18th century. In ‘hurling’, a ball was thrown up and the players had to catch and carry it to the goal to score a point. The first game of Rugby was played in year 1175

Scrum Cap-is a soft padded helmet used to protect head and ears. Rugby Boots- you a have soft ground and long ground to choose from. Shoulder Pads-absorb some of the impact from tackling & hitting the ground Mouth Guard- which is most important prevent teeth from being knocked out by tackle or from the ground Performance Shorts-prevents perspiration from accumulating and weighing down the shorts.

If you kick the ball or take the ball out of bounds then the ball is restarted by a lineout. If a team has committed a penalty, then the other team will be rewarded by having three options for each penalty. of these options you can kick the ball out of bounds and then they will get a lineout where this occurs at. The team awarded the penalty could also choose to take a free kick. The team could also choose to take a penalty kick at the goal line, which is comparable to when a field goal is scored during a football game.

Lineout - somewhat like a jump-ball in basketball, with both teams lining up opposite each other, but one team then throws the ball down the middle of the tunnel. Line-outs restart play after the ball, or a player carrying it, has gone out of bounds Ruck- One or more players from each team, who are on their feet and in contact, close around the ball on the ground. Once a ruck has been formed, players can’t use their hands to get the ball, only their feet Maul-Occurs when a player carrying the ball is held by one or more opponents, and one or more of the ball-carrier’s teammates bind on the ball-carrier Scrum- A contest for the ball involving eight players who bind together and push against the other team’s assembled eight for possession of the ball. Scrums restart play after certain minor infractions.

Rugby teams usually have 15 players on each team Each player holds a position on the team either as a forward (similar to linebackers in football) and a back (just like the backs in a game of football).

A rugby game usually last for 80 minutes which are split up into two 40 minute sections The game might be longer depending on how many stops occur during the game. Stopped play may occur when the ball gets out of bounce. Once this occurs the ball is thrown in the air while the players form a lineout Once this occurs the ball is tossed in the air as the teams form a lineout, which will give both sides the chance to jump and take possession of the ball While playing you can pass the ball by throwing, kicking or handing the ball to your team mate.

The main principle of the game is to score as many points as possible To score a “try/tries” one must take the ball and run it into the end zone which is worth 5 points. A try is similar to a touchdown in American football Next you would want to follow a try with a goal kick which is similar to a field goal after a touchdown, a player may attempt a goal kick from any area on the field but must hit the ground first; the field goal is worth 2 points.
