Attracting Human Resources: Staff, Volunteers and Boards. 9. Working with the Private Sector. 10. Organizing for Implementation. 11. Planning and Budgeting the Marketing Mix.

Strategic Marketing for NonProfit Organizations Chapter 8  Attracting Human Resources: Staff, Volunteers and Boards Lisa did the presentation for Part 1 of chapter 8. Lisa did the presentation for Part 1 of chapter 8.

Strategic Marketing for NonProfit Organizations Chapter 8 (Part 2)  Attracting Human Resources: Staff, Volunteers and Boards Picking up where Lisa left off – we are still talking about “From Contemplation to Action” (starts on page 225)  Costs (p. 226) Little research on costs  Others People are more likely to volunteer if asked or if they accompany another volunteer.

Strategic Marketing for NonProfit Organizations Chapter 8 (Part 2)  Attracting Human Resources: Staff, Volunteers and Boards Continuing with “From Contemplation to Action” (starts on page 225)  Self-Efficacy (p. 227) Nonprofits need to remove barriers to volunteering (p. 227). Potential volunteers might have a problem with making the transition from being willing to volunteer to doing it. Andreasen and Kotler provide examples of how the nonprofit can show people the steps to becoming a volunteer or help with removing obstacles (p. 227).

Strategic Marketing for NonProfit Organizations Chapter 8 (Part 2)  Attracting Human Resources: Staff, Volunteers and Boards Preparation/Action (p. 228)  Give people a chance to try out volunteering, see if they like it and want to do it again (p. 228) Maintenance – Retaining the Volunteers (p. 228)  Use marketing to help existing volunteers do a better job and keep them involved (p. 228).  Andreasen and Kotler suggest surveying current and past volunteers to find out if they are happy and ask why the former ones left (p. 228).

Strategic Marketing for NonProfit Organizations Chapter 8 (Part 2)  Attracting Human Resources: Staff, Volunteers and Boards Managing Volunteers (p )  Full-time staff and managers of the nonprofit are responsible for working toward the mission of the organization and must manage volunteers to do the same. (p. 230)  Many experts recommend treating volunteers as if they are part of the staff (p ).  Exhibit 8-1 Eleven Characteristics of Effective Volunteer Management Programs (p. 228)

Strategic Marketing for NonProfit Organizations Chapter 8 (Part 2)  Attracting Human Resources: Staff, Volunteers and Boards Boards of Directors and the Marketing Function (p )  The Influence of Boards on Marketing (p. 232) Primary Role of Board is “Oversight” with “fiduciary responsibility” (p. 232) Board Members should do fundraising (p. 233). See List of Typical Skills/Expertise of Board Members (p. 233)  Recruiting Board Members (p ). Use BCOS Model and apply concepts to recruiting board members (p. 234).

Week 8 Discussion Questions  We have only one question from Andreasen and Kotler this week for everyone to answer. How can you as a manager suppress the natural tensions that exist between professional full-time employees and volunteers.
