Presentation transcript:

What will your child be learning in the Spring Term ? Literacy: In Literacy we focus on Communication and Language, Reading, Writing, Listening skills and Understanding. We have daily Phonic lessons that revise all the 1, 2 and 3 letter sounds that have been covered. Children are also learning how to spell ‘phonetically sounding words.’ Children will read twice a week and will be tested on their sounds and their ability to segment and blend words. Children will have a story read to them 4 times a week. Activities will be prepared that will be related to the story. This focuses on their listening and understanding skills. Handwriting occurs on a daily basis where children will be encouraged to write with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Numeracy: In numeracy we are focusing on number recognition, ordering, writing and using numbers through adding and subtracting, developing mental maths skills for doubling and halving and our numbers bonds to 10 and 20. We are also learning about shapes, creating patterns, measures, money and time. dex.html dex.html ct/maths are great websites for numeracy ideas and games. R.E. The children do RE every Thursday morning with Mrs Golding. The focus topics for this term are: The Local Church, Eucharist, Lent and Easter. Physical Development: In Physical Development we are focusing on developing gross motor skills and fine motor skills. This can be demonstrated in weekly PE lessons. Dance, Gymnastics and Games are some of the different activities that the children participate in. Balance, Co–ordination, Agility, Spatial Awareness and Movement are all areas of Physical Development that are covered. The children also have access to play dough, construction equipment, using scissors, painting. activities that involve drawing and writing, and bicycles in the playground on a daily basis. This will increase their confidence and ability for handling tools and equipment safely and with control. Expressive Arts & Design Understanding the World The children have the opportunity to participate in various activities. These include: painting, making finger puppets, masks, drawings, junk modelling, cutting and sticking, making animals using paper plates and using an extensive variety of different resources to create pictures and various artistic pieces. The children also have the opportunity to engage in imaginative role play based on own experiences & build stories around toys. Songs, are sung regularly as well as taping out simple repeated rhythms and explore how sounds can be changed. ICT lessons occur on a weekly basis. Children have access to technological toys including computers where they complete programmes and understand how information can be retrieved from computers. Personal, Social & Emotional Development: Children will develop their confidence in all areas of the curriculum and will be able to select and use a variety of tools, resources and equipment for a specified purpose. This is achieved by children recalling their weekend news, talking about their family, ‘Show and tell’, circle time, likes, dislikes, learning right from wrong through school rules, learn to describe oneself in positive terms and developing and making relationships with their peers.
