Needs Assessment Opportunity for Northwest Valley Community College to add course in the certification program. Currently Northwest Valley Community College offers certifications in Criminal Justice, Computers, and Management courses only. Northwest Valley Community College may want to release a program that includes entry level Healthcare management (Emergency Management Technician Certification). Currently the certification courses for entry level jobs do not include any entry level healthcare such as Emergency Management Technician (EMT). The recommendation is for NVCC to offer courses to students that lead to certification needed to obtain entry level position as an EMT. Instructional Plan Template | Slide #3

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 11 Instructional Strategies Information taught – content will be in accordance with OSHA guidelines and local municipalities in Kelsey. Facilitating instruction will be a certified, experienced Emergency Management staff. The faculty experience will ensure success for the learner. College will advertise for the EMT course to encourage potential students.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 12 Plan for Implementation Timeline – Implementation of instruction will be twice a week for 6 weeks. The student will be in the classroom for 2 hours each day of the week until complete. Individual involved will be facilitator, student, ambulance personnel, and hospital staff. Feedback (weekly) from each individual involved will be used for assessments. Implementing the plan will include coordination between the college, county (compliance rules OSHA), hospital and local ambulance provider in the city of Kelsey. The plan will start in the classroom for the first six weeks and move to a clinical setting for the remaining. It will be important to include OSHA requirements and city requirements for classroom training.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 13 Instructional Resources Materials needed for student learning Computer – video instruction Medical equipment – video and web instruction Supplemental material CPR, Medical Terminology and Anatomy. Workshops – web testing City of Kelsey will be an instructional resource in the coordination of clinical instruction of real ambulance and emergency room situations.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 14 Formative Assessment Five Formative Assessments 1)Students will need to use content specific language (i.e. medical terminology) and summarize each learning experience. 2)Students will use charts and graphs to ensure organization of information and the connection between classroom learning and clinical learning. 3)Students will be encouraged to collaborate with other students which will demonstrate their understanding of what they have learned. 4)Students are required to maintain a ‘B’ average, therefore, assessment at workshops will be conducted weekly. 5)Instructors will be assessed to ensure students are meeting high instructional needs in order to demonstrate success.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 15 Strategy for Evaluation. Student Survey Clinical Experience survey. Hospital – procedures, techniques, practices survey. Classroom – Course material appropriate, faculty support Academic achievement – ‘B” average maintained Quantitative data - Evaluate number of students who maintained required grade average and who moved forward to submit for certification. Qualitative data – Evaluate students and faculty according to quality in the classroom, clinical setting, and hospital setting. Evaluation Strategies

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 16 Outcome Review Design Goals – Demonstrate proficiency in skills required for Emergency Management Technician. Successful student academic success to submit for the EMT certification. Performance-based objectives – Thinking skills of the student based upon patient condition, relevant to EMT troubleshooting. Learning outcome – students start a medical career as an Emergency Medical Technicians and start a position into a an entry level position with a local ambulance service company.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 17 Recommendations – Based on Outcome Review Recommendation Review – Retesting will be offered one time only. Recommendation Analysis – Measure with National standard analysis according to State EMS training coordinators to help with student selection into this course. Recommendation for future use – medical terminology development and reading and writing development. Speaking should be used as criteria for participation.
