Steps Gather as much information as you can about yourself and the careers you might consider Career exploration Match your interests, abilities, and skills

Self-Exploration Do I want to go to college after high school? Or do I plan to take up a short-term course? What do I like doing? Do I like working with people? Do I like numbers? Or do I like working with my hands? What am I good at? Do I write well? Do I think fast? Am I good in sports? What is the most important thing for me about a job? Is it the money I can get? Is it helping people? Or is it being famous?

Six Types of People Realistic Enterprising Conventional Investigative Artistic Social

Realistic People who have athletic or mechanical ability, Prefer to work with machines, tools, plants, or animals, or prefer to work outdoors.

Enterprising People who like to influence or persuade others, perform or manage organizational goals, or do things for economic gain.

Conventional People who like to work with numbers, have clerical or numerical ability, carry out things in detail, follow instructions well.

Investigative People who like to pay close attention, observe, learn, investigate, analyze, evaluate, or solve problems.

Artistic People who have artistic, innovative, or creative ability, and like to work in flexible situations, using their imagination or creativity.

Social People who like to work with people -- to inform, teach, help, train, develop, or cure them, or are skilled with words.
