A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF DTV IN AUSTRALIA  Subscription TV is offered by 3 providers (Austar, Foxtel and Optus) via cable and satellite. There are 7.5M households in Australia.  Current subscription level is 1.6M (22%) in Total.  Free to Air Digital Receiver population is just on 800,000 (11%) after 4 years of operation. Reception difficulties due to Antenna installations are rapidly emerging.  Free to Air services are available in Standard Definition and High Definition under the triplecast regulation. Public Broadcasters have some multiprogramming. Sales HD vs SD are 45% vs 55%  Conversion to digital relies on Quality and Quantity or the regulation of Digital tuners into TV sets.
