A DTV converter box is an easy-to- install electronic device that hooks up to your present television set. The box converts the digital TV signal into analog and makes it viewable on your analog TV. The boxes are expected to cost between $40 and $70 and are available for purchase at retail stores that sell electronic equipment. Once installed, you can continue to receive free over-the-air television.

The Federal Government (through the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA)) is issuing coupons NOW for DTV converter boxes. Households may apply for up to two coupons (valued at $40 each). These MUST be redeemed within three months (90 days) of receipt and they can only be used to purchase an approved converter box.
