GRIFS Summary GRIFS = Global RFID Interoperability forum for Standards European Union funded support action Duration: January 2008 to December 2009 (2 years) Members: GS1 (Coordinator), ETSI, CEN Objectives: -Document RFID standards activities globally -Establish liaisons with on-going projects and Standard bodies -Establish a global forum for RFID Standards
GRIFS Forum Objectives Create synergy, catalyse co-operation and avoid duplication of developments Minimise business expenses Maximise use of standards development resource Self sustaining organisation
Step 1 – Analysing the international RFID standardisation State of the art report on RFID standardisation 1 st version describes over 125 standards and identifies issues requiring coordination 1 st version in December 08 – Update provided for the online database Available from GRIFS website GRIFS standards online database 163 standards listed Editor-controlled community resource Continually and accurately updated
Step 2 – Setting up the Forum Workshops organised in Brussels, Hong Kong and Tokyo to collect feedback and raise awareness on the objectives of the Forum => Positive feedback Memorandum of Understanding to provide a basis for the participation of the relevant standards bodies in the Forum
Step 3 – Starting the work Forum meetings will be organised until the end of the project to continue raising awareness and start involving relevant standards bodies in the Forum. 30 June & 1 July 2009, Washington DC (agenda available and registrations open on GRIFS website ) September 2009, Beijing (TBC) September 2009, Seoul (TBC) November 2009, Brussels (TBC)
GRIFS Forum Responsibilities Coordination of the standardisation work programmes Monitoring the implementation of the Forum’s recommendations Agreeing changes to the MoU as required Deciding on membership applications Facilitate cross-participation in standards work Updating the GRIFS Database
