Preliminaries  Pre-class (5 homework points): take out your newspaper articles so I can check them.

Objectives  Be able to identify an issue you feel strongly about.  Be able to write a thesis statement using the T5WS writing strategy.  Be able to explain your point of view in the form of a short letter.  Be able to have that letter published.

Focus Lesson: …Your Voice…  Thesis Statements: T5W Strategy  Topic  5 Ws (and 1 H)  Sentence Formation  Read “Little girl was shot…”  Small groups  Independently  Write a thesis statement using the T5WS strategy.

Focus Lesson: …Your Voice…  Listen to my letter “Corrosive Culture of Silence” read aloud.  How to write a letter in 2 easy steps:  State the problem.  State the solution.

Homework: Letter to Editor  Due 9/19 for 50 project points.  Read either the Inquirer or Daily News over the next few days.  Find a story you feel strongly about.  Write a draft letter to the editor (150 words max.)
