R ENEWABLE RESOURCES PART 2 By: Felix Santoyo Period 4

W HAT TYPE OF ENERGY ? The type of energy that I’m going to use is Wind Energy. I decided to do Wind Energy because I already did Solar and Nuclear Energy. I also decided to do this subject because I think it is interesting to learn about Wind Energy. It’s also more reliable and doesn’t occupy a lot of territory in lands. Wind Energy doesn’t produce Greenhouse Emissions at all.

B UILDING M ATERIALS The materials that I will be using are a wind turbines to produce the electricity. A Wind Turbine a device that converts the wind into kinetic energy and makes it into mechanical energy and produces the electricity. The wind turbines are used commercial production of electric power. Usually the Wind Turbines have three blades and they are pointed into the wind by computer controlled motors. The wind turbine spin has a speed of 320 kilometers per hour, 200 MPH. All turbines are specially made to avoid damage by wind.

P ROS OF WIND ENERGY Wind Energy is renewable and it doesn’t pollute at all. Their construction and installation has less environmental impact as well. It may be used to provide electricity to individual homes, factories, building, etc, with no need of fuel or other materials. Wind can also generate power to large amount of people, using larger turbines connected to an electrical grid. Wind energy, when producing electricity it doesn’t consume any non renewable resources like for example coal, oil, and natural gas.

D ISADVANTAGES OF WIND ENERGY The wind turbines can be damage if there are thunderstorms because of their tallness and thin shape. Birds that attempt to fly by or next to a wind turbine can get hit or injured severely. Wind Farms can use a lot of land, and that land can be used for agriculture, but wind farms take a lot of space. Wind Turbines produce a little bit of power, that’s why there is a lot of wind turbines built in an area. Wind Turbine construction is very expensive to build.
