Survival One of the themes of this book is survival. In the beginning of the book, Timothy makes a shelter to shield themselves from the sun with their shirts and some boards from the raft. Timothy also managed to save some biscuits, some chocolate, and some water for them to eat. He also doctors Philip’s eyes when Philip went blind. Throughout the book, Timothy is very resourceful. Survival is shown in the middle of the book when Timothy and Philip are on the island. On the cay, Timothy builds hut out of all of the resources that they have on the cay. Also when Timothy makes the rain catchment to catch fresh rain water. Philip also sews a quilt for the both of them. Timothy also catches lots of fish and langosta to eat.

Survival  Survival is shown at the end of the book when Timothy gets all of their supplies and items. This is also shown when Timothy dies and Philip is mourning his death. Instead of sitting around doing nothing, Philip created a fire to produce black smoke, fished, caught langouste, and rebuilt camp.

In the beginning of the book, Timothy was very resourceful when he made the shelter out of their shirts and planks from the raft. Timothy also caught the flying fish and he doctored Philip’s eyes when Philip went blind.  In the middle of the book, Timothy was resourceful when he made their hut to sleep in and made the rain catchments. He also caught the langouste, a lobster with no pinchers.  The other trait that Timothy has is kindness. In the beginning of the book, he shows this when he gives Philip the two biggest pieces of flying fish, two biscuits, and a half of a cup of water. When I say this, I mean that Timothy puts himself in back of Philip so that he would take all of the injuries and wounds from the hurricane.  Timothy is kind at the end of the book when he shields Philip from the blasts from the hurricane. By doing this, Timothy had many injuries from the tempest. Timothy died, probably from losing so much blood.  Timothy is very resourceful in the end of the book when he gets ready for the hurricane. Epilogue  Hello, my name is Philip Enright Junior. Ten years ago, I was on a boat called the Hato when the shipped was torpedoed. I woke up and found myself stranded on a raft with a cat called Stew Cat and a � black � man named Timothy. I was later blinded because of the scar on my head. After that, Timothy reached and island with no one but us on the island that Timothy called a � cay �. We were able to survive until a hurricane hit the island and killed Timothy. Stew Cat and I survived, then about a week later we were rescued and my eyesight was brought back.  Then, ten years later, I came back to the island. A lot has changed over the years. For example, Timothy’s grave had been eroded away, so now it looks like sand, so I couldn’t find it. The wooden cat that Timothy carved is also lost. There is also no trace of anything from the camp and the camp itself. The good thing is, is that the langouste and the fish are still in the same spot.  When I journeyed back to the cay, I thought about how brave and how resourceful he was. I was also sad because going back there made me feel how sad I was when Timothy died just to keep me alive.  My experiences on the cay made me realize that everyone is the same on the inside.
