Republic of Moldova Dr. Silvia Ghinculov Consortium Electronic Resources for Moldova

Achievement Republic of Moldova Most academic libraries would like to have access to databases Springer Link. However, the cost of subscribing to this resource makes it inaccessible for the majority of scientific libraries of Moldova. The only library that had access to this resource was the Scientific Library of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. The directorship of the Scientific Library of the Academy of Sciences and the Consortium REM, negotiated with representatives of SpringerLink a free access to databases SpringerLink for all members of the Library Consortium REM in 2014.

How it was done… The positive decision on free access to databases SpringerLink allowed to organize a training seminar for representatives of the consortium REM on June 16, The representative of Springer - Frans Lettenstrom - briefed members of the consortium, scientists, PhD students and master’s degree students of leading universities on the features of this databases (82 pers.). The workshop was a success and allowed the representatives of the scientific and library world of Moldova to get acquainted with high-quality licensed resources and to provide access to them. Republic of Moldova

Advice or Challenge The success of this event suggests the need to coordinate the activities of all members of the consortium and actively lobby at all levels: from government officials, heads of scientific and educational organizations, non-governmental organizations to licensed providers of resources and consumers of scientific information. Library assessment Future of libraries is a topic of hectic discussions. This year we have conducted Survey on library assessment and scholarly resources in Russia. Our respondents were university faculty and researchers. First 1000 responses were analyzed and reported at ICOLC Europe in Lisbon, Portugal NEICONRussia

How it was done… We have developed a online questionnaire. Mounted the link on 370 university websites. Teachers and researchers had to answer questions on importance of e-resources and different library services for their scholarly work. We also asked them to put marks to their libraries. Uzbekistan Iskander Rakhmatullaev eIFL-UZ

Achievement Transfer of the experience of academic libraries corporate network to college libraries. 100 college libraries joined in the library corporate network. It is project of eIFL-UZ team. EIFL-UZUzbekistan

How it was done… About 200 college librarians have been trained to work in corporate library network and use open access resources. New version of automated library system ARMAT was implemented for 100 college libraries. Now there are more than users of corporate databases. 6th annual seminar in March «TECHNOLOGIES OF SCIENTIFIC AND EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION DEVELOPMENT AND USE IN THE NETWORK OF ELECTRONIC LIBRARIES” with Springer, OUP and Willey was conducted for consortium members and an annual journal was published and distributed to 61 consortium members. Presentations on EBSCO, Elsevier and Springer medical e-resources and on EIFL programs for 200 Master students of Medical Academy were held. EIFL-UZUzbekistan

Advice or Challenge Advice: transfer of consortium experience allows to involve new members to the consortium. Challenges: bureaucracy challenges in the development of the consortium and library cooperation, training of librarians and financial problems. EIFL-UZUzbekistan
