My Family Trip to Galveston One Saturday my family and I decided to drive to Galveston for the day after Diego finished his taekwondo class. We packed a cooler of snacks for the trip since it would take us an hour to get there. We also took along our airplane kite and extra clothes in case anyone got wet in the ocean. The best part was that we turned Scarlett’s carseat around so she could finally see where we were going! On the way down Diego got hungry, so we stopped at Caribbean Kitchen for lunch. Diego and I had beef patties and coco bread, and Damien had red pea soup. I got a pink Ting, my favorite drink! Scarlett really liked the coco bread so we decided to bring some along just in case. When we got to the beach, I noticed that there weren’t a lot of people there and admission was free! Damien parked the car, I put Scarlett in her stroller, and Diego walked to the water’s edge with his kite. Damien and Diego managed to get the airplane kite into the air quickly. The wind was great! When Diego’s arms got tired, I held it while he played in the water. He said it was really cold! Before we left we finished the coco bread and fed the crumbs to the birds. Poor things- Diego started chasing them away! No trip to Galveston is complete without walking around The Strand. It’s my favorite part because I love the old buildings! We got fudge from the chocolate shop, and were really sad to see that Diego’s favorite candy store closed down. Across the street we found Maggie Rita’s, where we ate dinner and watched the football game, after Diego played with the red Harry Potter British phone booth in the market square. We learned a lot from the historical markers all around The Strand. They showed old pictures of the buildings and information about when they were first built. We ended the day when the sun went down at Moody Gardens’ Festival of Lights. I’ve never been there before and was very excited to go! When we finally found the ticket counter we got our tickets and waited in line. Luckily, we got there early and were one of the first people inside. We saw all sorts of light displays- animals, monkeys, a nativity scene, even Sponge Bob and Patrick! There was an ice skating rink half way through the walk, and Diego and I rented skates. It was really funny to see everyone trying to keep their balance and not fall down! Right at the end of the walk was a section of trees all lit up in different colors. It was a beautiful end to an awesome trip to Galveston!
