Who We Are Community Development Goal Enable adults to learn the basic skills necessary for them to feel viable in the workforce and the community.

What We Do Educate. Inspire. Change.

Why It Matters In the US: Seven million adults, or about 3% of the adult population, could not complete even the most basic literacy tasks. Nearly 1 in 5 adults in the nonliterate in English group had a high school diploma or GED. Among them, more than half (representing roughly 600,000 adults) had earned their high school degree in the US. In North Carolina: In North Carolina more than one million residents cannot read well enough to hold a job. In Mecklenburg County, 20% of all adults are considered functionally illiterate.
