222 Daly City Mission

3 The mission of the church is not to improve the social condition in the community (donating school supplies, and health fair are means to draw the neighbors to Christ). The mission of the church is to proclaim the gospel of Christ to the nations so that they can repent and reconcile with God through faith in Christ.

4 Rev 7:9, I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.

5 Zech 8:22-23, And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty … In those days, ten men from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, “Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.”

6 The plan of God was to draw all nations to Jerusalem through true Jews who are circumcised by the Spirit. The movement of all nations to God was centripetal (people converging on Jerusalem to seek God).

7 Isa 42:1a, 6b, “Here is my servant... I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles.”

8 Jn 8:12, Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.“ When Israel failed to be the light for the nations Jesus becomes the light of the world and attracts people to God.

9 Mt 5:14, 16, You are the light of the world … let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. The church is the light of the community.

10 Jn 1:45-46, Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found (the Christ)… Jesus of Nazareth.” “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip.

11 Jn 4:29, the (Samaritan) woman went back to the town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”

12 Philip and the Samaritan woman invite their friends and neighbors to “come and see Jesus for yourselves.” The main attraction of the church is not the pastor or the children or youth programs; the main attraction of the church is always Christ.

13 The movement of the people to Jesus was centripetal (people converging on Jesus to see whether he is the promised Messiah or not).

14 Jn 20:21, Christ said, “As the Father has sent me I am sending you.” Mt 28:19, Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations. Christ sends his followers to the nations so that every ethnic group has an opportunity to hear the gospel and respond to God.

15 The movement is both centripetal (come to Christ) and centrifugal (go to the nations).
