Bible Survey - Acts Purpose of Writing: Luke’s main purpose in writing Acts is the same as his main purpose in writing the gospel: to provide Theophilus with an account of Christianity from the beginning up to his own time. Luke’s deeper purpose was to provide an account of the missionary activities of the early church and to demonstrate how the Spirit of Christ was accomplishing his own purpose in the expansion of the Gospel message.
