Matthew 1:22-23 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23 "BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL."

Jesus as the Promised Messiah Matthew 4:13-16 and leaving Nazareth, He came and settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: 15 "THE LAND OF ZEBULUN AND THE LAND OF NAPHTALI, BY THE WAY OF THE SEA, BEYOND THE JORDAN, GALILEE OF THE GENTILES-- 16 "THE PEOPLE WHO WERE SITTING IN DARKNESS SAW A GREAT LIGHT, AND THOSE WHO WERE SITTING IN THE LAND AND SHADOW OF DEATH, UPON THEM A LIGHT DAWNED."

Jesus as the Promised Messiah Matthew 21:1-5 Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there... 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5 "SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, 'BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU, GENTLE, AND MOUNTED ON A DONKEY

Matthew 9:27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” Matthew 21:9 The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David.”

Jesus as the King of Israel Matthew 27:11 Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned Him, saying, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And Jesus said to him, "It is as you say." Matthew 2:1-2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, 2 "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?” Matthew 21:4-5 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5 "SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, 'BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU….

Jesus as the True Israel “Out of Egypt I called my son....”

Jesus as the True Israel “Rachel weeping for her children; And she refuses to be comforted, Because they are no more.”

Jesus as the True Israel Matthew 4:1-2 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights....

Place in the Canon Historically, Matthew hands down to us the essence of Jesus’ teachings, miracles and life. Theologically, we are taught that Jesus is the true king who fulfills in himself all righteousness. Devotionally, we are led to worship Jesus and obey him as our king.
