1 Acts 1 From Old to New

2 Background Author: Luke the Physician Written: AD 60 Purpose Old TestamentGospelsNew Testament Acts

3 Acts 1 1 The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. 3 To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

4 Acts 1 4 Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, "Which," He said, "you heard of from Me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

5 Acts 1 6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, "Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?" 7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

Jeremiah 31:31-33 “The time is coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt… This is the covenant I will make… I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Joel 2:28-29 'And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. 8 But...the magician...was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. Acts 13:10-12 and said, "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord? 11 "Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time." And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand. 12 Then the proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord. Acts 13:9 But…Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him The Holy Spirit also works quietly in the Book of Acts, transforming lives.

Many of the comparison churches are thus inwardly focused.” Thom Rainer, Breakout Churches, p. 178
