IET 120 CONSTRUCTION PROJECT Name: Clarence Hunt

Dwelling  Single floor plan 1-Commons Area: ft 2 3-Hallways: ft 2 1-Laundry/Utility: ft 2 2-Bathrooms: ft 2 12-Dorm Rooms: ft 2

Square Footage  Square footage of each floor  4,080 ft 2  Square footage total  4,080 ft 2

Location 3 Hummingbird Lane, Morehead KY 14 miles for Morehead State University

Building Materials  Metal roof, Spray foam insulation, weather treated wood members.  Geothermal HVAC system, continuous water heating system.  These products are used to make the building as green as possible, but keeping within the initial budget that was planed.

Building Materials  EcoRock (green alternative to drywall)  Versi-foam insulation  Porous Concrete  Skylights  Concrete block  Recycled carpet tiles  Cork/bamboo flooring

Floor Plan Layout  I chose dorm style bedrooms to accommodate 24 students. I chose to have a small kitchen area, and commons area together where students can socialize and fix food if they want. I chose to include two bathrooms. Due to having multiple genders in the building. I included one laundry room that is easily assessable for the students.

Timeline  Initial buying of property 1-2 weeks  Prepping the land- 2 weeks  Developing the blueprints- 2 weeks  Obtaining all the necessary permits- 2 weeks min.  Installing plumping and electrical wiring to the house. 2- weeks  Inspection of plumbing and electrical -1day  Digging and forming the foundation -1 week

Timeline  Pouring concrete for the foundation-2 days  Laying of concrete block/brick veneer- 4 weeks  Installing of rafters- 1 week  Applying sheeting to roof- 1week  Installing metal roofing- 1 week  Building interior walls- 3 to 5 weeks  Installing electrical, plumbing, and HVAC-2 to 3 weeks  Hanging EcoRock and finishing it 5 weeks

Timeline  Installing doors and windows- 1 week  Installing flooring- 3 weeks  Installing trim work- 3 to 4 weeks  Painting of the walls and ceilings- 3 to 4 weeks  Installing furniture and appliances- 1 week  total time to build the project: 45 weeks or about11 months maximum.

Conclusion  My conclusion is it took a lot of time to plan and developed a design. Meeting the square footage allow was difficult and made me think new and creative ways to fit enough space in so that it could accommodate all students in the class. There was a initial budget set at 1.5 million dollars, but do to green technology and better building standards, the project came in at a total of $553,746.  Yes, this project had me learning about and finding new and green materials that can be used as building materials.
