Solution: Weblets n Weblet is a section of interest from a web page. n Personalica.com enables users to easily define their own Weblets from any website, using their PC. n Weblets can be gathered and made easily accessible by opening one page n Weblets are accessible through WAP devices n Example...

Local News Site

Stock Market Site

Personal Grades

Local Soccer Team

Personalica.com n The user visually drags and drops pieces from her favorite pages into a “Weblet cabinet” n These pieces - “weblets”, are not just copied, but logically reflect the current information on the original site

Personalica - Visual Personal Page n The Weblets could be visually organized into a “Visual Personal Page”. n When this page is accessed using an Internet browser (e.g. Netscape), it displays updated information gathered from all the original sites.

Visual Personal Page try this

Personal WAP Web Weblets can be organized into menus, and accessed using a WAP compliant device.

Instant Notification Technology n Mobile Users can ask to be immediately notified by a ring or a message when a specific Weblet changes in the originating site. n Examples: –A flight has arrived –A Stock has reached a certain price –New grades were published

Business Opportunity Why today is the right time

Personalization is Hot n Content providers are striving for greater exposure and market share n Personalization is regarded as one of the key components for returning users n Personalization is used as a way to improve market segmentation for focused advertising

Mobile Access is Growing n By 2004, one-third of all Europeans - more than 219 million consumers - will regularly use mobile phones to access Internet services n 90% of the e-commerce executives interviewed plan to launch Internet sites designed for mobile phones with tiny displays and thin connections Source:

Mobile Access Focus n Users are more willing to pay for up-to- the-minute mobile content n Content has to be converted to Mobile/WAP devices n “Power Users” are the first target market for mobile devices n Wap devices will not be able to use regular content for a while

Business Model Products, Customers, Revenue Channels

Content Models n Users can mark any piece from any web page on the Internet Participating sites can provide their own “tailored weblets ”

Products n Visual Personal Page for portals –Enables users of a Portal to create and view Visual Personal Pages n Personal WAP Web for cellular companies –Enables user to create “Waplets” to be viewed on their mobile n Tailored Weblet Construction Kit –Enables content providers to create tailored weblets

Visual Personal Page for Portals n Intended for “personalization providers”: portal sites and “online bookmark” sites. –Will allow portal users to include Weblets in their personal pages –Will enable portal users to access those Weblets through WAP –Site will be giving end users a better service and becoming “stickier” Personalica will be able to provide services transparently to the site (ASP model).

Personal WAP Web for Cellular Companies n Will allow their customers to access desired pieces of information on the web using Web- Phones or Vox technology. n Added value – the users can also build “Visual Personal Pages” out of their Weblets and access them with their PC’s.

Weblet Construction Kit Used to define special content areas called “ Tailored Weblets ”. “Tailored Weblets” are like regular Weblets: –Can be dragged to Visual Personal Pages –Can be viewed on a mobile device “Tailored Weblets” have additional benefits: –Easier to configure on a Visual Personal Page –Used to manage cooperation between the content provider and the personalization provider

Weblet Tailoring for WAP n “Tailored Weblets” are used to create an ever-updated WAP version of the site n When users access the site through a WAP device. Only the Weblets are translated to WAP. n Users get a small piece of the page that is suited for a mobile device and is the “important” part of the “regular” page.

Weblet Construction Kit n Will be sold to any Internet sites that wish to easily provide WAP content, without reconstructing extra versions of their sites. n Added value – The Tailored Weblets are compatible with any Personalica technology. Personalica.com promotes these sites on the “personalica.com” web-site.

Technology

Editing a Personal Page originating site web data user pc Weblet configurations Personalica enabled server Cache Server

Editing a Personal Page Personalica enabled server user sends: 1. URL 2. content segment originating site 1. server reads and analyzes the content. 2. creates a “page map” describing the page 3. locates the weblet content in the map user pc userIdURLURL maplocation in map server stores a database entry

Viewing WAP Weblets originating site web data page requests menus and Weblets Personalica enabled server Cache Server userIdURLURL maplocation in map 1. Server retrieves the database entry 2. Analyzes the content - matches with map 3. Filters and sends only the “weblet” part of the page

Cooperation and Competition

Potential Partners n Portal and Web tool vendors –We would enhance their offering, and benefit from their sales channels n WAP server/gateway vendors –We sell to similar markets, can cooperate with marketing efforts n WAP site building/hosting providers –We will enable them a better service to their customers

Some Companies Contacted n audicode.com –Finland based WAP server vendor n oneview.com –European portal/online link site n iobox (ioboxgroup.com) –European mobile content and service provider

Competition n Phone.com, Nokia WAP servers and Applications n PassCall Internet to Cellular translator n GoSMS.com Provides various content from the Internet to cellular-phone users

Competition n Yahoo and other portals –Some already have A WAP compatible portal n Octopus.com –Offers visually constructed personal pages out of content from affiliated sites. n Rebus ( –Create a tool to have multiple windows and views inside IE5

Problems & Challenges

Content Copyright n The content of the Weblet belongs to the originating site –We believe sites will gain from having their Weblets used –We will enable content vendors to block Weblet retrieval

Business Model Concerns n To enjoy our mobile services, the end users must have both “regular PC” (for configuration) and mobile access n The non-mobile services are for the content/portal industry, which is somewhat problematic

Technological concerns n Identifying the content that the user selects is not easy n The filtering algorithm is not trivial n Personalica enabled servers might demand large bandwidth

The Team n Arie A. Livshin - M.Sc. Computer Science CEO n Nadav Aharoni- M.Sc. Computer Science CTO n Vitaly Lubart - M.Sc. Computer Science VP R&D n Arnon Rund - MBA CFO n Itzik Tzoreff - MBA BD / Marketing
