Portable Ruggedized Solutions Our company provides portable ruggedized computer systems for use in harsh environments. We also make products better. Most of our business is catered toward Military, federal government, state and local business.

Currently Bidding for a Navy Contract Requirements: 1 WIFI capable, Electromagnetic interference harden, expandable, Adobe acrobat reader, drop resistant to 20 feet, heat tolerant, 3 hour battery life and secure.

PROBLEM NAVY PUBLICATIONS (Background) Years ago the U. S. Navy decided to go paperless in an effort to “go green”. Utilizing computers/internet for technical publications (pubs), vice paper pubs in large bulky binders. Also the thought was to save the Navy Millions of dollars by not having to maintain paper publications and printing of publications for distribution. This also cut down on storage space for the binders but was not totally paperless. Maintainers still had to print pubs out and take them to the aircraft or other work areas for maintainers without tough books. When the Navy switched to the Panasonic Toughbook it was revered as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Maintainers could check out the Toughbook from Quality Assurance (QA) and take it to the aircraft or other work areas to access technical publications with ease. The Panasonic Toughbook is good if you just want to use it as a technical pub library but falls short when it comes to total functionality.

TOUGHBOOK SHORTFALLS No cutting edge hardware Heavy and bulky (who needs more weight to carry while in full battle rattle?) Low battery life Expensive upgrades No built in GPS No internal cooling system ( bad for Desert environment i.e. Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan ) Slow touchpad Only one USB port RAM only upgradable to 1 GB (Slow)

MORE SHORTFALLS Difficult readability in direct sunlight Horrible audio Limited Wi-Fi capabilities with upgrades Awkward implementation of touch screen No multimedia controls Not for the faint of wallet. $ !!! No life cycle support (When the broke they go away)

TIME TO MOVE ON Today’s Navy is producing more versatile Sailors than ever. Cross training and the advent of “The Hybrid Sailor” (Sailor’s who work in different rates) maximizes the production of each sailor. With technology advancing, we as a military need to advance to become more efficient and productive war fighters. Giving the troops newly updated tools that are versatile and not limited by size, weight, cost or outdated technology will increase production and war fighting capabilities infinitely!

TABLETS TESTED FOR NATEC PUBLICATIONS A resolution by choosing one of the three solutions

Tablets Tested Panasonic Toughpad A1 Pros Dual Core Processor, RAM (1024 MB), HDMI Output for TV out, 5MP camera, GPS, very durable: Dust/water resistant, 3 year warranty. Cons Heavy/bulky, price ($1,299.00), lacks ambient light sensor, no 3.5mm headphone jack. Bottom Line Featuring a rugged, water and dust resistant design for the flexibility to work freely in nearly any environment, the Toughpad offers the perfect tool and the most effective tablet for mobile workers. Meets all Navy requirements. Toshiba Thrive Pros Dual Core Processor, RAM (1024 MB), HDMI Output for TV out, 5MP camera, GPS, price ($399.00). Cons Lacks durability, 1 year Warranty. Bottom Line Matches up nicely with the Toughpad with comparable hardware and performance levels, but severely lacks the durability. Not impact resistant.

Tablets Tested Cont. HP TouchPad (Wi-Fi) Pros: Dual Core Processor, Price ($279.00) Cons Lacks camera, lacks durability, lacks GPS, smaller screen, limited warranty Bottom Line With solid hardware and a user-friendly operating system based around multitasking and intuitive organization, the TouchPad matches up nice Does not meet NAVY specification.

Selected for Navy Contract Panasonic Toughpad A1 Pros Dual Core Processor, RAM (1024 MB), HDMI Output for TV out, 5MP camera, GPS, very durable: Dust/water resistant, 3 year warranty. Meets and exceeds all Navy requirements.

Conclusion We do make our own computer units; However, in this case we went with something that was commercial off the shelf ready to go. Our own product that we developed for this contract was not ready for testing at the time of the trials. This was the other reason we chose to go with what was best available. Our goal in this contract was sustainment of the product and life cycle support. Initial support is for 5 years. After integration and delivery we will go into sustainment and customer support.
