Presentation transcript:

What we have done so far…in December and January! There has been 9 Change4Life events in Herefordshire so far. The 2 Christmas Grotto events were held at Belmont Community Centre, where the Change4Life team spoke to approximately 400 families who live in Herefordshire. There have been Change4Life walks held on Saturday mornings through-out January at Hinton, Ross-On-Wye and Eardisley. These walks finished at a community centre or village hall, where a C4L promotion event was held. These events included The Secret Sugar show, the Fats of Life, Tasters sessions including The Bush Tucker Trial, Health Trainer stand, Wii Fits and lots of C4L giveaways! The C4L team have also attended 2 Hinton Baby Yoga sessions where information was provided alongside the Secret Sugar show and the Fats of Life. The team has also delivered Supermarket tours in Tesco and Asda, in Belmont. There will be future supermarket tours in the Co-op, Morrisons, Tesco and Asda in Hereford, Ross-On-Wye and Leominster.

The Change4Life team had a presence at the Belmont Community Centre’s Christmas grotto on the 12 th and 19 th December. After the children had met Santa, they could then take part in some of the C4L activities and were given a Satsuma, along with lots of C4L leaflets, wall charts and stickers! At this event the Change4Life team worked closely with the Health Trainers, offering information and help for families wanting to make changes to get healthy, but also more specific help was provided by the Health Trainers for the parents who had shown an interest in stopping smoking, reducing alcohol intake, losing weight and becoming more active!

It can be confusing trying to sort out the Facts on Fats. This short session helps people understand about where fats are found in food, and how to eat the right amount to keep healthy. The C4L team have shown families lots of practical tips and ideas, helped with reading food labels and offering free taster samples of healthy foods!

The Bush Tucker Trial gets kids trying new, healthy foods that they will be unfamiliar with and have probably never eaten for before! The activity will also increase their knowledge of good foods, helping them become more interested in what they eat. “I can’t believe my daughter tried and liked dried apricot…now I can buy it, confident that she will eat it!”

The HerefordshireChange4Life walks have been held on Saturday mornings through-out January. The fun family walks include ‘The Uphill Downhill Walk’, ‘The Sketch, Snap and Stroll Walk’ and ‘Spot the Streets Walk’ which have taken place in Hinton, Ross-On-Wye and Eardisley. Future walks will include Hereford City, Leominster and Ledbury. The walks have been based on the ‘Foot Print’ walks – of which there are a pack of walk maps available, for families to try in their own time! The Walk4Life events are aimed at families, helping to encourage greater daily activity (Top Tips 7 and 8).

The Change4Life Supermarket tour is a chance to put changes into practice, with a little help from the Change4Life team! A display in the foyer with information, leaflets to take away and plenty of helpful staff to answer any questions encourages people to come and see what we were doing! There is then the opportunity to be accompanied around the supermarket by one of the team who helped with choosing healthier versions of the ‘usually bought foods’. The Supermarket tours helped the people of Herefordshire achieve Top Tips 1,2,4,5 and 6! Supermarket Tours at Tesco’s and ASDA in Belmont

Events have been based around helping families achieve the 8 Top Tips. Top Tip 1 Sugar swaps 2Meal time 3 Me size meals 4 Snack check 55 a day 6 Cut back fat 7 60 active minutes 8 Up and about Legend
