1 Children’s Weight Management Programme

2 What is MOVE IT? MOVE IT is a weight management programme for children and their families ages 7-16 who need help with weight management/maintenance. It is a FREE localised programme which combines all elements known to be vital in treating and preventing overweight or obesity including family involvement, healthy eating advice, increasing physical activity and behavioural change.

3 What’s on offer? MOVE IT Schools - 6 week programme for years 5 and 6.
MOVE IT Community - 6 One to One sessions over a 6/12 week period for ages years. MOVE IT Families - 6 week programme for children aged 7-16 years and their family.

4 Our Aims Facilitate and coordinate a series of MOVE IT programs across the borough of Sefton targeting overweight children aged 7-16yrs and their families. Encourage a family approach to the delivery of MOVE IT programmes , when possible providing the opportunity for healthy lifestyle messages to be cascaded to all family members. Deliver programmes through school and community venues. Work alongside school nurses and Sefton's National Children's Measurements Programme (NCMP) within local schools. To offer effective child centred/family input into the development of activities to ensure the programme provides for a wide cross section of interests and promotes equal access for all.

5 MOVE IT Community Who’s it for?
For children aged who live in Sefton. Where does it happen? MOVE IT sessions are run across the borough in all Active Sefton Leisure Centres. What we do 6x 60 minute session over 6-12 weeks combining a gym based session with a healthy eating discussion. All sessions are on a one to one basis with a qualified personal trainer. Programme overview of each session Includes a 10 minute healthy eating discussion followed by a 50 minute session in the gym.

6 MOVE IT Families Who is it for?
For children aged 7-10 and their families Where does it happen? MOVE IT is delivered in all Active Sefton leisure centres across the borough. What we do The programme consists of 6 fun weekly sessions and is designed to encourage healthy habits such as healthy eating, behavioural change and physical activity in a fun and interactive environment. Each session is for 60 minutes combining healthy eating tips and fun physical activity games. Programme overview of each session Includes a 10 minute healthy eating chat followed by 50 minutes of fun physical activities either gym or studio based.

7 What we cover Goal setting Fluids Food groups & portion sizes
Fruit & Vegetables Fat’s, sugar & salt Food, mood & sleep Children are also given their own MOVE IT recipe and activity booklet.

8 Who refers? Doctors/practise nurses – can refer using our MOVE IT or Active Lifestyles referral forms. School nurses – Can refer using our MOVE IT referral forms. Self refer – Parents/guardians can self refer onto our programme by calling up.

9 Cost MOVE IT is a FREE programme when attending with one of our MOVE IT instructors one day a week for 6/12 weeks. If the child (and parent if they are taking part) wish to attend the gym/swim in between seeing their instructor they both get to do so for a reduced rate of £2.50. Following completion of the programme they can take out a membership and we can signpost them to any relevant activities they may be interested in.
