Unit I. Inventory Procedures 1.Describe the use of inventory software. 2.Process incoming stock. 3.Perform physical inventory.

Content Standards Activities/Assessment 11/12 R 2.3: Verify and clarify facts in other types of texts using a variety of consumer, workplace, and public documents.  Students will read and evaluate incoming merchandise for accuracy on vendor invoices. Updated store data Teacher review and verification Peer review Teacher verification Check list verification.  Students will perform a physical inventory using functional workplace documents; calculate sales rate and the percent to overall sales and profits. M 7 MR 2.6: Express the solution clearly and logically by using appropriate math notation and terms; support solutions with evidence in both verbal and symbolic work. M 7 NS 1.6: Calculate the percentage of increases and decreases of a quantity.

D. Personal and Occupational Safety 1.Apply personal safety practices to and from the job. 2.Recognize good housekeeping as a safety issue. 3.Identify safety hazards commonly found in a variety of medical settings including Standard/Universal Precautions and hazardous waste. 4.Describe the procedures for reporting a work-related injury. 5.Discuss ways to report a potential safety hazard to a supervisor. 6.Explain the importance of CAL-OSHA. 7.Define and discuss ergonomics in relationship to the working environment. 8.Discuss the electrical hazards of working with electronic equipment. 9.Recognize the effects of substance abuse in the workplace. 10.Demonstrate procedures to be followed in case of emergencies. 11.Recognize the importance of using proper body mechanics for lifting and moving in the work setting.

Content Standards Activities/Assessment 11/12 R 2.3: Verify and clarify facts in other types of texts using a variety of consumer, workplace, and public documents  Students will read safety information from a variety of sources such as equipment manuals for electrical hazards, labels from cleaning solutions, health and safety brochures, CAL- OSHA documents etc.  Students will discuss and analyze how headings, fonts, color, and graphics are used to help convey the author’s message. Class/group discussions Written and/or oral questions and answers 9/10 R 2.1: Analyze the structure and format of functional workplace documents.

E. Cash Handling Procedures 1.Describe how to recognize counterfeit currency. 2.Balance and close a cash drawer. 3.Set up and open a cash drawer. 4.Demonstrate proficiency in cash register operations and cash handling procedures. 5.Accurately count change back to the customer. 6.Discuss the importance of confidentiality in consumer transactions.

M 7 MR 2.8: Make precise calculations and check the validity of the results from the context of the problem.

E. Introduction to Medical Terminology 1.Identify the basic word building system used in medical terminology. 2.Utilize word roots, combining forms, prefixes, suffixes, to analyze unfamiliar medical terms and phrases. 3.Identify and demonstrate pronunciation of medical terms. 4.Demonstrate the ability to use medical terms in their proper context.

Content Standards Activities/Assessment 9/10 R 1.1: Identify and use the literal and figurative meanings of words and understand word derivations.  Students will prepare index cards with word parts to practice terminology.  Students will use interactive computer software to practice word parts, pronunciation, and definitions.  Students will use a medical dictionary to look up word origins, including mythological references, and practice pronunciation. Word part quizzes Oral pronunciation Weekly sentences to check for proper context and usage Fill-in the blank exercises Chapter tests 9/10 R 1.3: Identify Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology and use the knowledge to understand the origin and meaning of new words. 9/10 R 1.2: Distinguish between the denotative and connotative meanings of words and interpret the connotative power of words. 9/10 R 2.6: Demonstrate use of sophisticated learning tools by following technical directions.
