You will Become familiar with the nature of the secretarial occupation Understand the training process Confirm your career choice

3 Keyboarding You will learn to apply a keyboarding technique using all of the keys of the keyboard You should attain a minimum net speed of 25 words per minute You will become aware of the importance of observing ergonomic rules

4 Proofreading You will develop the ability to proofread business texts:
check and correct sentence structure check and correct spelling and grammar check and correct punctuation, numbers, use of capitals and abbreviations improve the quality of texts

5 Information Management
You will learn to manage administrative information: Prepare an inventory list of the types and series of documents Interpret a classification plan and a records retention schedule Classify documents File documents Process semi-active and inactive documents

6 Basic Word Processing You will learn to use the basic functions of Microsoft Word to: Format and modify texts Create tables Merge texts with lists of data from files in the same program Use tools to assist in writing Save and retrieve files Manage files and folders Print documents Make backup copies

7 Writing Business Correspondence
You will learn how to compose and format business correspondence in English, using word processing software, spelling and grammar check, templates, dictionaries and grammar books.

8 Common accounting tasks
You will learn how to carry out common accounting tasks for commercial and service companies: prepare the deposits process vouchers related to merchandise order process purchase invoices produce invoices manage petty cash fund carry out payroll tasks follow up on correspondence

9 Database Software You will learn to use Access, a database software
You will create database tables, do queries, process data, prepare forms, labels and reports, and update files You will also learn to do data entry accurately

10 Quality You will understand the operation of the organizations which apply quality management principles You will recognize the importance of your participation in the process of quality management You will establish objectives and means to achieve quality in your work.

11 Periodic Accounting Tasks
You will learn to carry out periodic accounting tasks in service and commercial companies: Carry out a bank reconciliation Produce reports Carry out end-of-period procedures Fill out regulations forms Modify parameters in the modules of the accounting application Follow up a budget You will learn Sage50 – the Accounting application

12 Communication You will become familiar with the principles of communication You will understand the importance of communication in an office setting You will apply principles and techniques of communication You will become aware of your strength and limitations with regard to the way you communicate

13 Telecommunication Using telecommunication tools and computer equipment you will learn to: transmit and receive information by courier, , fax search for information in an internal and external network

14 Bilingual communication
On the basis of case studies, learning situations and role-playing in English and French you will learn to: greet visitors take and transfer telephone calls make telephone calls

15 Business correspondence production
You will learn to produce and receive business correspondence: Planning the work to be done Writing letters Ensuring the quality of text Formatting texts Filing the correspondence Sending out the correspondence Receiving and processing correspondence

16 spreadsheets You will learn to use the basic functions of Microsoft Office to: Create and modify spreadsheets Move and copy cells Perform simple calculations using operators and built-in functions Perform a multi-sheet operation Create graphs Import and export files

17 Time management You will learn to manage your time:
Understand the importance of using your time efficiently Adopt methods of managing your time more efficiently Become aware of your strength and limitations in managing your time

18 Business correspondence in French
You will learn how to compose and format business correspondence in French, using word processing software, spelling and grammar check, templates, dictionaries and grammar books.

19 Labour laws You will learn to handle requests regarding labour laws:
Interpret requests Give information to persons making requests Gather the information to be submitted with the claims Prepare the claim documents Follow up the claims FIELD OF APPLICATION: labour standards, human rights and freedoms, employment insurance, occupational health and safety, access to documents held by public bodies and the protection of personal information, individual contracts, collective agreements and consumer-related contracts

20 Translation into french
You will be translating business correspondence from English into French using spell- and grammar-checking programs, dictionaries and grammar guides.

21 Advanced word processing
Using the advanced functions of word processing software you will: Produce personalized documents Produce forms and input data Sort text and data Adapt the software to specific needs Input text in column form Use automatic numbering and create text banks Automate frequent tasks by means of macros and toolbars Produce lists, indexes, tables of contents Do calculations in tables Export and import files Use document templates

22 Desktop publishing You will learn to design the visual format of a document: Plan the visual format of a document Determine the appearance of titles, subtitles, key words and normal text Determine the content and the appearance of headers & footers Create templates Insert graphics FIELD OF APPLICATION: desktop publishing applied to the production of newsletters, brochures, business cards, invitations, advertising material, reports, magazine articles, studies, etc.

23 Document production You will be producing and formatting business documents. Entering information: Forms, tables, reports, press releases, advertising material, calls for tenders, tenders, contracts. Writing: Forms, tables, press releases, advertising material.

24 Business meetings You will learn how to prepare business meetings:
Become familiar with instructions Verify the availability of resources Produce notices of meetings and supporting documents Forward the documents needed tor the meetings Arrange meeting rooms

25 File updates You will learn to update files:
Add and delete data from documents Change formatting elements of the documents Reorganize lists of data Produce new versions of documents

26 Job search techniques You will use and apply a job search method to help find a stage and/or job Prepare a resume, cover letters, lists of references, practice interviews

27 Entering the Work Force
You will do a two to three- week practicum (stage) in the workplace
