Ways Students Can Save the Earth Bring lunch to school in a lunch box instead of a paper bag Jog, walk, or ride bike to save energy Turn off lights to save energy Use products that can be used many times Never litter & pick up garbage you see Buy products that have been recycled Recycle plastic, aluminum, and paper Don’t buy packaged products

What is Recycling? Recycling is taking something like paper, aluminum, or plastic, after its been used, and turning it into the same thing or a new product.

Facts about Recycling In a person’s lifetime they will throw away 600 times their weight in garbage. If we recycle the aluminum that Americans throw away we could rebuild the entire U.S. airline fleet every three months Recycling one glass bottle saves enough electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for four hours. The US has 6% of the world’s population, but produces half of the garbage. Each ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 3 cubic yards of landfill, 4,000 kilowatts of energy, and 7,000 gallons of water.

Why do We Recycle? 1. To save natural resources 2. To prevent environmental problems caused by landfills 3. To save energy 4. To prevent pollution 5. To make jobs and save money
