7 How much trash do we produce? The US is only 5% of the world’s population and we generate 40% of the world’s waste The average American produces 4.34 pounds per day (1,580 pounds per year) Lake Region average was 2.9 pounds per person per day in 2012

10 Recycle Glass ▫Every month Americans throw out enough glass bottles and jars to fill up a giant skyscraper ▫The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle can run a 100-watt light bulb for four hours ▫Uses: Cups, glasses, plates, candlesticks, artwork, vases, jewelry, marbles, countertops, tiles

11 Recycle Paper and Cardboard ▫Recycling 1 ton of paper saves  17 trees  7,000 gallons of water  3 cubic yards of landfill space  2 barrels of oil  electricity to power the average home for five months ▫Uses: Paperboard boxes, tissues, paper towels, copy paper, insulation, flooring
