“to lead the transformation of teaching and learning through technology.”  introduce a new technology to a group of teachers  explore two new technology tools and learn about their use and application in the classroom  apply these technologies in a literacy lesson Correlation of project to NYSCATE Mission Statement

 Transform literacy lessons from teacher directed learning to student directed learning  Provide teachers with the opportunity to learn how to use new technologies in their classrooms  Provide students with a new engaging way to share their perspectives and to analyze text  Offer a new literacy experience  Give students and teachers an opportunity to collaborate through a digital media global environment Goals correlated with the NYSCATE mission

 Students will select and critically read a book. (Common Core Reading standards 1,2,3,5,10,11)  7 th grade choose from books published in 2011/2012  5 th grade choose literature circle books Project Activities

 Students will compose a written summary of the book. (Common Core Writing standards 1,2,4,5)  Step up To Writing IVF summary  Book review Book review Project Activities

Students will create movie trailer using iMovie ’11 to persuade others to read the book. 1.Students will select an appropriate theme from the list of template choices (ie. Drama, action, romance) 2.Students will review the storyboard template to determine cast, roles, scenes and develop idea for narrative. Project Activities

Writing 1. Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence. 2. Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. 4. Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. 5. Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. 6. Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others. 9. Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research. 11. Develop personal, cultural, textual, and thematic connections within and across genres as they respond to texts through written, digital, and oral presentations, employing a variety of media and genres. Reading 4. Present information, findings, and supporting evidence such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. 5. Make strategic use of digital media and visual displays of data to express information and enhance understanding of presentations. Language 2. Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. 5.
