2 Session Objectives Participants will
Familiarize themselves with the Writing Anchor Standards and the importance of each grade level Explore the Traits of writing Reflect on how good writing impacts comprehension speaking and listening skills CCR Anchor Standard 1. "Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence." **Begins in Kindergarten CCR Anchor Standard 2. "Write informative or explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content." CCR Anchor Standard 3. "Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences." CCR Anchor Standard 4. "Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience." **Begins in 3rd Grade CCR Anchor Standard 5. "Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach." CCR Anchor Standard 6. 7 Active Participation Count of 1 to 7 to divide into groups. Group 1 – Read p. 5-6 on Ideas, Group 2 – p. 7-8 on Organization, Group 3 – p on Voice, Group 4 – p on Word Choice, Group 5 – p on Sentence Fluency, Group 6 – p on Presentation, and Group 7, p on Conventions. After taking time to read individually, discuss the high points with your group and create a poster with the highlights.

15 Things to think about Develop a student friendly rubric that the students are familiar with before they begin the writing process. Remember, if a student can write about it, then you know they understand. Provide multiple opportunities, daily, for students to write, across genres and for varying purposes. Just like the more we read, the better we read, the more we write, the better we write.
