The part "Mitigation" is carried out in cooperation with the German co2online GmbH in order to give a wider overview of options to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Hands-on parts and technical aspects will be explained in co-operation with the Deutsches Museum in Munich in the context of the European Pencil project. Climate related parts will be interlinked with the ESPERE climate encyclopaedia. QUANTIFY education seeks further co-operation with other projects. What is QUANTIFY? QUANTIFY education is an Internet platform for computer based training within the QUANTIFY Network on Transport and Climate. The main aim of the QUANTIFY research project is to estimate the impact of transport on the climate in Europe and beyond. The educational branch addresses in its first two stages of development primarily schools, but also the interested public. Time frame and contact The platform will be developed during 2006 and be available at least until the end of the QUANTIFY project in Exchange and project planning together with schools in the English and German language area is very welcome during this time. Please contact Elmar Uherek at: Structure The two larger parts, transport and climate, are broken down into sections about different transportation means and different types of climate impacts. Each section is developed in two levels, roughly for students of the age group years and years. Each level includes the branches Information Training Guidance The information will provide background knowledge, the training some interactive tools where the student or reader can test, if he or she understood the texts. The guidance part includes links to further information and recommendation how to integrate the material into school curricula. Background Emissions from transport (road based, ships and aircrafts) have a major influence on our climate system. The personal decisions of our citizens in choosing vehicles for their on needs and leisure time activities like holidays will be very relevant for the mid-term development of this growing source of emissions, in particular for the energy consumption and release of CO2. Social studies clearly indicate that the awareness of environmental problems does hardly have any influence on our behaviour in mobility. On the other hand the transport sector gives maybe most options to the single person to understand and control the personal influence on emissions. The goal of QUANTIFY education is to make understandable for the single citizen what emissions are released in the transport sector, which technical options we have and what the impacts of our behaviour are for climate and environment. Contents QUANTIFY education offers information in the Internet. The website consists of three parts: 1) Transport: an overview of the transport sector, the vehicles, technologies and interrelations between physics, technology, traffic growth and emissions. 2) Climate: an overview of the climate impacts on a global and on a local scale, including also health risks. 3) Measures: a short section "What can I do?" explaining strategies how the personal contribution to negative consequences of transport can be reduced.
