Purpose of this presentation…  To introduce UCCSRI to you.  To hear from you about your CSR initiatives, programs / plans and even share on success stories as well as any implementation challenges.  To discuss with you how our partnership initiatives would benefit your (from your) enterprise.  To solicit your views on what UCSSRI should do to benefit Ugandan enterprises.

What is UCCSRI?  It is a voluntary initiative in Uganda that works with, helps & coordinates Ugandan enterprises to continuously embrace Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) issues across all their operations.  It is a CSR information and advisory source for companies in Uganda.  A forum for discussion and exchange of CSR ideas and issues in Uganda.  It is a company limited by guarantee and incorporated in Uganda in October, 2007.

Goal of UCCSRI… To have a healthful, productive, enjoyable and sustainable environment in favor of all persons, communities, businesses and organizations, with opportunities to gain new skills, competitiveness and advancement in achievements, careers & goals.

Objectives…  To strengthen the CSR ethical and moral conduct in Uganda.  To promote CSR Innovations in all areas of business.  To reward, recognize & emphasize corporate citizenship.  To educate the public about the value of CSR & Sustainable development.  To provide high-end CSR philanthropic advice.  To conduct CSR research and offer appropriate advice.

Our history, formation and legality…  UCCSRI was founded in early 2007 to promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development in Uganda  It was formed after a Uganda meeting and discussion with officials of the Living Earth Foundation (LEF) – UK, to brainstorm on the way forward to foster and enhance CSR.  In August 2007, UCCSRI joined the United Nations Global Compact  UCCSRI is an incorporated Ugandan Private Company limited by guarantee and has no share capital, incorporated in October 2007.

Our products, services & activities (planned and current)  Disseminate legal requirements or regulations regarding CSR to Ugandan businesses;  Extend CSR advice to organizations and business entities  Mainstreaming CSR existing programs among enterprises.  Promote good business environmental practices. /business/Companies_to_pool_CSR_ efforts_87416.shtml  Help our members develop CSR implementation guides for their respective companies.  Develop nationwide campaigns focused on explaining benefits of CSR activities to consumers, and encouraging sustainable Consumption patterns.  Undertake independent CSR reviews that can assess the impact of any merger, acquisition or development of businesses, products or sites.  Review CSR & sustainable development initiatives throughout the country  Conduct series of CSR research for the benefit of Ugandan companies (access the 2008 Uganda CSR Research Report here: rammes/uganda/CSR_study.pdf
