USMA ‘95 Individual Ready Reserve What to expect when you get a Western Union telegram from US Army Reserve Personnel Command. How to prepare yourself for mobilization. What to take with you to the mobilization site. Great stories from IRR officers To Resign or Not to Resign How to resign your IRR commission Recall Links Class POC

How will the soldier know that he or she has been called to active duty? The IRR soldier will receive an order from HRC St. Louis (formerly AR-PERSCOM) in the form of a Western Union Mailgram.

How do IRR soldiers get to their mobilization sites? The order to active duty will include travel authority and information. Carlson Wagonlit can help. Ft. Belvoir Carlson Wagonlit office Duty Hours 0730-1630 Phone Numbers 703-799-5680 866-480-0659 After Hours Assistance 1-800-383-6732   When Overseas, Call Collect 1-210-805-3728

How does an IRR soldier seek an exemption or delay? Soldiers who receive mobilization orders are expected to comply with the order. IRR/IMA soldiers who think they may have grounds for delay or exemption must apply in writing to the HRC St. Louis Delay and Exemption (D&E) Board Team explaining the reason(s) for application and providing the necessary information and documentary evidence. Soldiers may call the D&E team at 1-800-325-4361 for additional guidance on preparing a delay or exemption packet. Packets forwarded to HRC St. Louis will go before the Delay and Exemption Board for a recommendation and the HRC St. Louis Commander will make the final determination. Soldiers may appeal unfavorable board outcomes to the Department of the Army G1. The HRC St. Louis D&E Board Team will provide instructions for this process as well.

What happens if the soldier fails to comply with the order? Soldiers who fail to comply with the reporting data on the order to active duty will be listed as Absent Without Leave (AWOL), and will subsequently be listed as deserters if they fail to report within 30 days. In either event, their names will be reported to military and civilian law enforcement officials and they will be subject to apprehension and criminal prosecution.

To Resign or Not to Resign Send in your IRR resignations and receive orders If you haven't sent in an update to Reserve PERSCOM since you got off of active duty and your address has changed they don’t know where you are. If Reserve PERSCOM can't find you they can’t send you orders or they get orders returned to sender. IRR orders are normally sent to the home of record identified on your DD-214. Sometimes it is safer to find a Reserve unit and transfer from the IRR If you do not want to deploy and are concerned about getting recalled from the IRR find a unit that has recently returned and transfer into it. If you want to deploy, but not as an individual augmentee, find a Reserve unit that is preparing for deployment and transfer into it - most are on a five year cycle. It is easier to get out of the Active Reserve following a 1 or 2 year mobilization than it is to get out of the IRR. Many Reserve MOS are in a stop loss . If your MOS is in astop loss you cannot resign. Additional information is available through Reserve PERSCOM.

Resign from the IRR Read the Fine Print: Your commitment is not complete until you pass the 8 year mark. After the 8 year mark, just when you thought you were free - NOTHING HAPPENED to your record to indicate your time in service was complete. You must resign from the IRR. In order to resign you must submit a resignation letter to RESERVE PERSCOM Sample format There is a link on the Reserve PERSCOM page that tells you how to get out - you need an Army Knowledge Online (AKO) account to get there AKO website - www.us.army.mil
